Hoi An - day 4

Today was Monday and 1st day of school. It’s orientation week and loads of online education sessions for the parents. Because of the time difference it was hard to tune into the early ones, but hopefully can watch the recorded ones later in the week.

I woke up still feeling not great, but Aanya seems to have fully recovered. As it’s going to be raining tomorrow, I thought best to use the bikes and explore old town and also visit the country side.

We have been using a laundry service in Hoi An and we visited them again today for the 2nd time. The people who run it are an old couple with the help of their kids and grand kids. They are so fascinated by Savik and Aanya, and they  get the biggest smiles on their faces when they see them. When we were leaving the lady comes running out with 2 bananas in her hand to give it them.(even though our 2 don’t like bananas). The first day the man gave them some cake. Savik can’t understand why they do it, and I explained that they are genuinely happy sharing things and making people happy. No wonder the laundry is aptly named Happy Laundry.

We rode the bikes along the paddy fields and headed to the old town for some last minute shopping. While riding we came across a Chinese new year celebration happening in the middle of the road at a T junction. There was the full array of Chinese lions, God of fortune mascot and of course the dragon dance. The fireworks coming out of the lions mouth was the highlight. I love coming across these random events.

We then went on a boat ride along the river. The boat is lit up in lanterns in true Hoi An style. It was a wonderful end to a day filled with surprises.

Tomorrow evening we head to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon).
