Good news, Shalini’s visa has come through (yay) and she will be taking a flight tonight, and will be here early morning tomorrow.
First thing in the morning was to dial into one of Saviks classes and meet his teacher for the first time. I was feeling quite overwhelmed as there is so much work to be done for the year.
We ventured in to the city mid afternoon and explored the many shopping complexes in the city. Walked to the Notre dame cathedral which is having some renovations like its namesake in Paris. Also tried to go into the famous Saigon post office which is next to the cathedral, we were promptly stopped by a security guard, as Aanya had a (closed) drink in her hand. Apparently you can’t have food or drinks inside. There are some quirky rules like this in Vietnam, we can’t even eat, drink or even lie down on the sofa in our apartment building lobby.
We walked down to the Saigon river passing the grand People’s Committee building, Saigon opera house. Then the fun started as we had to cross a road to get to the othersde. Ho Chi Minh city traffic is next level, during peak time( which is most of the day I would say) motor bikes even go on the pedestrian pathways. There is a constant stream of cars and bikes that kept coming, even though we were at a zebra crossing, they wouldn’t stop for you. We were brave, and just walked through, the beauty is, the bikes weave around you while you walk through. We made it unscathed. Walked along the riverfront with a full moon in the backdrop and kids found their favourite place, the open air community gymnasium and park. They love using the gym equipment in all these parks.
We were back in the apartment and went to bed all excited that we will be 4 again tomorrow.
