Udaipur - Sick Savik

After a terrible night of Savik being sick we spent the day resting. We utilised the time to finish school work, catch up on movies and learn how to solve a Rubik’s cube .

Luckily we have a fluid plan for Rajasthan so able to extend our stay here for one more day .

Hopefully things are better tomorrow.

Udaipur - Old city

We were up early so decided to start with the Ghats and Jagdish temple . Udaipur is the city of lakes (7 man made lakes ) so a lot of Ghats. We started with the Gangaur Ghat which was filled with pigeons being fed by locals and tourists. Later in the day we saw kids jumping off the sides into the water to cool off.

While we were walking up the streets the city was waking up, shops were opening, traffic was low and people were minimal. It was the opposite of the hustle bustle we saw later .

We took a guide through the city palace , the largest palace in India. The Royal family stills lives here and as they own a chain of luxury hotels they are very well off, therefore  the palace is well maintained. Our guide had a good sense of humour as well as was very proud of his heritage, so was fun going through the palace .

From there we headed to Jag Mandir, a private island in the lake owned by the Royal Family. It has a restaurant on it with beautiful architecture.

As per plan we decided to rest during the heat of the day and head out to see the sunset. Not always do things go to plan and Savik had a big vomit. I guess the gastro bug the rest of the family has had has caught up with him.

Aanya and I decided to go have our own adventure while the boys rested. We walked around and talked to the locals and based on their advice we went to the newest ropeway that had opened last month .

It took us up a hill with Fateh Sagar Lake in its backdrop . On the top we saw a bunch of wild peacocks and prayed at the temple where Aarti was going on (saw a cool contraption of the drums being beaten by a machine). We then made ourselves comfortable on a rock with our snacks to watch the sunset. While there we saw runners and cyclists make their way up and down the hill. Saw the sun make its way down behind the Aravali hills, waited a little longer to see the city light up for the night and then headed down .

There is a walkway around the Fateh Sagar Lake with lots of food sellers on it. We strolled along enjoying some one on one time along with our grilled corns (bhutta ). Picked up dinner and headed back to find a sick Savik at home .

Udaipur

Back on a plane ! Since start travelling this is ( nearly a month ) the longest we haven’t been on a plane .

Plan is to see the other bits of Rajasthan that we had wanted to .

The drive to and fro from the airport was longer than the flight it self. We got a driver that told us about so many other things to do around here that we will have to change up our plans .

We headed to a rooftop for dinner and Udaipur is so gorgeous !!  Cannot wait to explore tomorrow.

Agra

Early morning start to skip the traffic and the kids slept the whole way there . Woke Aanya up when we arrived at Taj Mahal . A lot has been done to decrease the pollution around Taj Mahal so only electric cars or horse carriages are allowed in the 1 km around it .

Our guide met my most important criteria - he was a great photographer. So we saw Taj Mahal in all its glory , heard all about it and got some wonderful photos as well . Jeevan was last here around 30 years ago and I was around 20 years ago so our memories are a bit old. It was more beautiful than I remember and really well kept.

We had lunch, then headed to Agra Fort. We entered through a drawbridge, the most is now dry but used to house crocodiles in the past . We were able to see the 25% open to public , the rest is part of the army catchment . We heard about the love story of Jodha Akbar , the multiple wives of the other kings and the opulent prison of ShahJahan . We saw Taj Mahal from different spots as well as admired the beauty of the fort itself .

We picked up a Taj Mahal snow globe and the famous Agra Pethas and headed back to Delhi .

We were very fortunate to get a great driver, minimal traffic, fun guides and kids in a good mood making it a perfect day .
