Jaipur - Palaces and beyond

We started with the City Palace, it’s an active palace with the Royals living here.

They have their own personal flag and a small one flies on the top of the bigger one if they are in residence. The small flag was there but we didn’t catch a glimpse of them. Instead we got a great tour with a guide and learnt a lot of their history and witnessed a lot of the craftsmanship. We weren’t going to buy anything but ended up with quite a haul of Jaipuri blankets and a sari for my mother.

Next stop was Jantar Mantar, it was made 300 years ago and is amazing to see the sundials (I think one of the biggest in the world with an accuracy of 2 seconds) and other pieces of equipment.

Lastly we visited the Hawa Mahal, all the small windows so the Royal women could witness celebrations without being seen themselves. It is beautiful and there are lots of musicians and puppeteers in there making it a great tourist spot.

We walked around the old city a bit more, admiring all the old architecture though the traffic is crazy.

Dinner, before we headed back, the kids have been eating everything with gusto. I am so glad to see them enjoying the street food that I love .
