Jaipur - Forts, photos and animals

The kids indulged me by starting very early today (bribery may have been involved).

We headed to Patrika gate, thinking we would be the only ones there. Very wrong, wedding photoshoots were underway. It was quite entertaining to watch the running, twirling and loved up poses. There was a skating class happening on the side for children, it was great seeing the drill with all the whistle blows .

After that we headed to Hawa Mahal and a few other areas to try and get some photos without crazy traffic. We got to see a snake charmer too, the first time for the children.

Breakfast and then to Amer Fort. We got a guide and walked up with him, hearing all about the fort. We were lucky to see the elephants coming up too as they only do it till 11am. You can ride up the elephants and enter through the sun gate as the kings used to, there is a move against it for the sake of the animals. Our guide didn’t just give us information but also took the best photos. He captured us looking in a mirror at sheesh mahal and it looks like we are in a framed photo on the wall. It was fun listening about the 12 wives of the king and the secret passages into their rooms to avoid jealousy. Also the mazes and the tunnels to avoid enemies.

It was pretty cold in the morning but by midday it was heating up, glad we are here at this time of the year.

Before heading away from the fort we went to the stepwell (Panna Meena kund) it was  our first one. The water was green and there were two shiny silver appearing turtles at one end which I was sure were statues till they slid into the water!

Quick stop at Jal Mahal for some photos, along with camel spotting and to eat Aanya’s favourite salad (chana jor garam !!). Then an afternoon nap to recharge.

For our last day here we went to Nahargarh fort (with the rest of Jaipur it seemed) for the sunset. It was beautiful, the bits we could see among the hoards of people. Savik managed to squeeze himself on top of a platform and take some photos.

The part I really enjoyed was exploring the fort at night, it was gorgeous lit up. We also had fun looking at the sculptures that are temporary displays by various artists. The one in the central courtyard had a clever play with mirrors and balls. We got to see peacocks on the way up as well as lots of monkeys in the fort.

We have seen cows, buffaloes, dogs, horses, elephants, camels, snakes, peacocks, eels, turtles, monkeys, pigeons and more all in one day!!

We walked down to the old city on the motor bike path, it was a much quicker way, than the main road.

What a busy day to end our Jaipur trip, we managed to tick off all we wanted to see and keep everyone happy .
