Ho Chi Minh - Cu Chi tunnels

Early start to get to the tunnels . We got a great guide who gave us information the whole way there with the added bonus of having a great sense of humour.

Before the tunnels we went to an art centre that is run by disabled people ( most of them affected by agent Orange from the war ) . The process of how the art is made was a fascinating one , duck egg shell dust , sea shell pieces , washing and scrubbing of the paintings turning them out to be gorgeous pieces.

At the Cu Chi tunnels they have been made wider so tourists can fit and even then they are small . There were three levels of tunnels, we got to see the first level. The children were in there in a flash and navigating them easily but even they had to be bent down . One of the last ones was in its original state and we had to be squatting low down for it . Sweat was dripping from staying in there for such a short period , cannot imagine how people lived there for days at a time .

Last part of the tour was the shooting range where you do target practice with the guns used in the war - AK47s, machine guns etc . One of the ladies was too scared to go in the tunnels but loved the shooting , we had fun watching her .

Ended our day with some great pizza, watching a photo shoot, buying the same t-shirts for all of us ( Vietnam bikes ) and walking along the river at night . Tiring but a fulfilling day to end our time Vietnam .
