The plan had been to be out early and back at midday to beat the heat but with both the children having a poor night of sleep we started of late in the morning.
Unluckily that meant we did the walk on the walls around the old town in the heat. Icy water and gorgeous views definitely helped make it easier.
As we went to book our cave tours for tomorrow we changed our plans and did it today instead. After lunch we got on a speedboat with 4 others and sped off to the island of Kolocep. First stop the blue cave, I had read about its beauty but nothing had prepared us for the glowing blue light that filled the cave. We jumped into the water, swam to the entrance and then entered an area that was surreal. We took some photos but they definitely do not do it justice. The water had us enthralled.
Next stop was the green caves, they were three of them. The largest was just a cave where you swam in and out, the second was the smallest but the prettiest. As we swam into it, it was pitch black and we could see nothing in the front of us (even banged my snorkelling mask overhead). Luckily we hit a sandy bank as Aanya wanted to leave and turned towards the opening of the cave to see how dazzling green the water was as the light shone into the cave. We saw other people enter and leave the cave as it was too dark and eerie for them but they missed the beauty of it by not venturing further. The third cave was an adventure cave where light shone in from the top but you had to squeeze through pillars and swim under rocks to make you way through it. Aanya and I turned back midway while Savik and Jeeevan did it all.
We then got dropped off at a sandy beach (a lot of beaches in Dubrovnik are pebbly) for some time to ourselves before heading back.
We decided to leave the hike to the sunset point for tomorrow and call it a day. Blue cave was everyone’s highlight of the day.
