Finally got around to getting up early and enjoying a run around the water before the heat of the day took over.
We then headed to the airport to pick up our rental car for the next 3 weeks. We got the best female Uber driver for the ride, she gave us great tips for our trip ahead.
Driving on the right side seems so tricky to me, glad Jeevan is doing it. It was a quick crossing at the borders and we made it into Bosnia pretty easily.
The drive through the Sutjeska National park was gorgeous, high bare mountain peaks surrounded us with lush greenery on the ground along with dazzling lakes and rivers. Lots of tunnels have made it easier to get through the mountains. We stopped at Battle of Sutjeska monument and climbed over 200 steps to the top. All these war memorials are supposed to ensure we remember and don’t repeat history, and yet wars go on! After that came the bushfires high in the mountains and we got to see the helicopters in action trying to put them out.
We arrived at our apartment in Sarajevo in the evening and thought we would have an early night. We then headed to an ATM (cash is king here), and when we saw the hustle bustle of the city centre we couldn’t resist and decided to walk around and see a bit of the town. It has a great vibe to it, a mixture of the old and new. We ate our first Cevapis and it was a hit with all of us so will be eaten more I am sure.
Long driving day, have liked what we have seen so far of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
