We took the bullet train from Casablanca to Tangier, supposed to be the fastest train in Africa. 2 hours later we were at the gorgeous town of Tangier (the red city).
We had hired a driver and car for the day to explore as much as possible. He took us for a drive around the city and into the medina, there was quite a narrow gate to get through, it was quite a tight squeeze. He then took us to various viewpoints to see the best of Tangier and Strait of Gibraltar. Lunch was at Cafe Hafa, a 103 year old cafe with a terraced front looking out to the sea, each seat was a good seat.
We walked in the Medina, taking heaps of photos and buying delicacies of everyone’s choice - berries, figs, olives and Nougat. Along the way we also saw very cute animals- kittens a day old, baby camels and even a baby donkey.
The drive to the lighthouse was filled with stunning houses, the views from them would be amazing. Quick stop at the lighthouse and then headed to the famous Hercules caves.
The caves weren’t actually that big but have become famous due to the photos from the centre looking like the map of Africa. The glare was making our pictures not at their best so Savik took putting our face as stickers on the photos which had us cracking up.
After our whirlwind tour of Tangier we headed to our actual destination of Chefchaouen. Along the way there are so many Moroccan flags 🇲🇦. The beautiful red flying in the wind really brightens up the place. Lots of dams and windmills on the trip too, good to see sustainable energy in the making. The kids hardly looked out as they were happy to kickback and read their books.
