Tashkent Day 2

Feeling rejuvenated and ready to explore the city, we headed to the Hazrati Imam Complex. It’s a magnificent sight to behold as we walked towards it. Enormous beautiful buildings with large courtyards, so similar to Taj Mahal in architecture.

We walked through a gorgeous mosque with plush carpets (had to stop Aanya from doing gymnastics as it was so soft).

Then went to the building that held the oldest and largest Quran and also the tiniest one too. Time for some ice cream before we headed to the tombs.

Met a group of Indian tourists, Central Asia is definitely become the tourist spot for Indians , easy flights and tours. Had a lovely chat to them about travel and cricket. They were our parents age and gave some good advice to the kids (who obviously weren’t listening !).

Then off to see the metros , each station is decorated in a different theme. We got on the Ozbekistan line and got off at every station. Our favourite was the space themed  astronauts (including Yuri Gagarin ) and futuristic decorations had us enthralled.

We headed to lunch at the Plov centre, there is a ginormous cooking vessel in the centre where the food is cooked. After a walk through the kitchen and seeing all the horse meat being chopped, we decided to head off elsewhere.

After lunch was a meandering walk, soaking up the sights as we made our way back to the apartment. One of my favourites was the Monument of courage for the earthquake that occurred in the 1960s where a large portion of the city was destroyed. There is a large statue of a man, woman and baby with their feet on two sides of a crack. There are large motifs at the back depicting the hard work that went in rebuilding the city.

Aanya did not enjoy the last bit of the walk and needed a piggyback and some cuddles to restore her joy.

At night as she wrote  her diary she mentioned the patriarchy in some of the things we saw today, the children see so much more than I expect at times.
