Almaty

Having a day to explore Almaty we walked all over and saw loads ( as per the kids a bit too much 😂) .

Had found a blog outlining a walk in the centre of town with 20 points of interest, we made it to 18 , skipping the last two as they were on a hill to see the sunset but as the day was cloudy and rainy there wouldn’t be much to see .

Started at the Green Bazar where we walked around eating bread as it came out from the oven , luscious strawberries, juicy cherries , fresh yoghurt ( though the lady told me to reuse the tasting spoon in the feta which made a little sceptical but had already paid for it ) and nuts . Had a quick walk through the meat section seeing the cuts of horse meat.

Then on to the biggest mosque in Almaty , a lady was soliciting clients just outside it ( seemed an odd place to be ).

We spent the most time at Panfilov Park, lots of laughter while making videos of the kids blowing dandelions and eating yoghurt.

Admired the larger wooden cathedral in the world and the eternal flame honouring the soldiers who died in the wars . We then used a bike contraption to roam around the rest of the park ( which was the best part of the day for the kids ).

After lunch we headed to the pedestrian street as it made its way to the Opera House . The street has beautiful structures including lots of apples ( Almaty means Grandfather of Apples as per our guide ). It looked even better lit up at night as we walked back and the ice cream stores had opened up too.

We loved our day of seeing all the sights , the kids enjoyed most of it though they said there was a little too much to see .

Ready to start a tour tomorrow to see more of Kazakhstan!
