Maasai Mara

A morning walk through the campsite with the Masai people showing us how all the  trees have different purposes. We used the bristles of one to brush our teeth, another to colour our hands orange, ochre to colour the faces (used when they get married)  and another one to make soap (it was so interesting to watch how quickly it was made).

White chalk stone is used to draw lines on themselves to blend in with the animals while on their walks and before they used animal skin for covering but now use red, orange or yellow coloured cloth to wrap around themselves and as a cover to sleep.

We left with so much more appreciation for all that nature has to offer.

A short but bumpy ride took us to our next stop - a glamping spot near the Maasai Mara.

We then headed for an afternoon game drive. Elephants and cheetahs were on our list and we were very very lucky to see them.

We first saw a herd of elephants with the cutest tiny babies in the mix. The grass is so long in here but the jeeps can get in to many more spots than the truck could in Serengeti.

We then drove through hundreds of wildebeest that have migrated to this side of the savannah. The new grass post the burn has started sprouting and being eaten by the animals.

Our driver then raced to a tree as he heard of cheetahs over the radio. We got to see them up, close and personal as two cheetahs lounged under the tree. One walked around, did a wee on the tree and laid back again. They are two brothers that have been together since 2017. Cheetahs were the one animal that Savik wanted to see so he was very happy!

On our way out we saw another herd of elephants with their calves, slowly they made their way across the path. One stopped to breastfeed along the way, all babies are the same.

An African massage (bumpy roads) on our way to the campsite. Great hot showers to end the day.
