Ella Rock & Ambuluwawa tower

Early morning rise to beat the heat as we climbed Ella Rock. It was initially tricky to find the way and we were expecting that given the blogs I had read prior to arriving. I was quite sad to see that some of the signs had been rubbed off so that people wouldn’t know the way and be more inclined to hire guides. We veered off the path twice but locals called out to us and got us back on the right path.

It was bit of a challenge and there were bits where Savik wanted us to turn back but managed to cajole him along. Aanya lost steam at the top when we still had to walk around to get to the viewpoint.

I remembered my mother’s method and we started singing interactive songs, enough of a distraction to get her to the spot where we sat and looked out at the beautiful view and ate breakfast.

Once food was in, the kids were both jumping around and the trek down was quick and fun as played guessing games along the way.

We had the top pretty much to ourselves as the sunrise crowd had left and the next lot hadn’t arrived (we met a lot of people as we were walking down and they were coming up). Kids were very happy to tell people along the way as to how hard the last bit was going to be, I think they might have stressed a group of young people.

After a much needed shower we did a quick drive through town before making our way back to Kandy.

Along the way we stopped at a tea estate and then Ambuluwaawa Biodiversity park . Luckily I had no clue about the tower and had not seen any videos of what was to come. I was very surprised to find out that no one has died on the tower as yet. It is a tower at the top of a hill that has a spiral staircase on the outside that gets narrower as you climb up. The railing is relatively short with large gaps on it, Aanya would easily fit through. The kids were screaming we are going to die as we got closer and closer to the top. Happy to say we survived.

Back to Kandy at night, happy to see family again. Aayna happiest to see Olaf the white rabbit .
