We were up early so decided to start with the Ghats and Jagdish temple . Udaipur is the city of lakes (7 man made lakes ) so a lot of Ghats. We started with the Gangaur Ghat which was filled with pigeons being fed by locals and tourists. Later in the day we saw kids jumping off the sides into the water to cool off.
While we were walking up the streets the city was waking up, shops were opening, traffic was low and people were minimal. It was the opposite of the hustle bustle we saw later .
We took a guide through the city palace , the largest palace in India. The Royal family stills lives here and as they own a chain of luxury hotels they are very well off, therefore the palace is well maintained. Our guide had a good sense of humour as well as was very proud of his heritage, so was fun going through the palace .
From there we headed to Jag Mandir, a private island in the lake owned by the Royal Family. It has a restaurant on it with beautiful architecture.
As per plan we decided to rest during the heat of the day and head out to see the sunset. Not always do things go to plan and Savik had a big vomit. I guess the gastro bug the rest of the family has had has caught up with him.
Aanya and I decided to go have our own adventure while the boys rested. We walked around and talked to the locals and based on their advice we went to the newest ropeway that had opened last month .
It took us up a hill with Fateh Sagar Lake in its backdrop . On the top we saw a bunch of wild peacocks and prayed at the temple where Aarti was going on (saw a cool contraption of the drums being beaten by a machine). We then made ourselves comfortable on a rock with our snacks to watch the sunset. While there we saw runners and cyclists make their way up and down the hill. Saw the sun make its way down behind the Aravali hills, waited a little longer to see the city light up for the night and then headed down .
There is a walkway around the Fateh Sagar Lake with lots of food sellers on it. We strolled along enjoying some one on one time along with our grilled corns (bhutta ). Picked up dinner and headed back to find a sick Savik at home .
